Christine's was founded in 1990 and is devoted to the oriental arts and
those who's artists speak from the heart, capturing the very essence of
China. Christine's is located in Suzhou, China located in the
lower reaches of the Yangtze and on the shores of Lake Taihu, the cradle
of Wu culture. The name "Wu", often referred to Suzhou, was
derived from local tribes who named themselves "Gou Wu" from the late
Shang Dynasty (about 11th century BC). In 514 BC, King Helu of Wu
State built his capital here known as the "Great City of Helu", and
since then the city, its sites, culture and scale have remained
virtually unchanged, making Suzhou a rare city of historical and
cultural renown world over. Legend states that
"In heaven there is paradise, and on earth there are Hangzhou and
Suzhou". The mere name of Suzhou brings many beautiful images to people's mind: wonderful gardens, beautiful ladies, soft Suzhou accent, delicate embroidery art, amazing silk double sided embroidery, fine Lake Taihu pearls, hand crafted silk fashions, precious jade carvings and enchanting Suzhou food.
